Automate data extraction from ID card images to populate forms

Usage (Input Output)

The expected input is a picture of the front side (or first page) of a New Zealand or Australian Driver’s License or Passport. The image format should be one of PNG or JPG (JPEG). 

Currently the workflow extracts:

• ID Type (driver’s license or passport)

• First name(s)

• Last name

• Date of Birth

• Expiry date

• ID number

• Version number (driver’s license only)

• Address

Expectations/Limitations

The workflow is tuned for Australian and NZ ID cards, specifically driver’s licenses and passports. It has not been tuned or tested for every country however, so performance on these exceptions may be poor. The same goes for new ID templates introduced after November 2021.

Images uploaded in a format other than PNG or JPG may not be processed by the workflow.

Blurry or unclear images may cause performance drops.

The photo needs to be in the correct position and angle.
